Root systems types

Adventitious (Fibrous or fasciculated) root system:

Radicle dies quickly after emission (some monthes) and is replaced by adventitious roots coming out from the base of the stem (example: Monocot plants).

Primary Tap root system:

All roots are coming from the vertical growth and branching of the radicle (first root coming out from the seed) which persists during all the plant life (example: Dicot plants).

Primary tap root system with secondary tap roots:

The primary tap root is limited in growth (it can die) and is replaced by additionnal secondary tap roots.

Plagiotropic root system

The primary tap root is limited in growth (it can die) and is dominated by plagiotropic laterals.
