How to install Xplo

Back to the table of contents

Installation

There are two ways to get Xplo:

  1. with an installer (downloaded from the AMAPstudio Download page or provided by a modeller working with AMAPstudio. In this case, please follow the instructions on the AMAPstudio download page.
  2. you are a modeller, member of the AMAPstudio co-development community, or a member of his team, you were granted access to the AMAPstudio source codes through the SVN source code versioning system, follow the instruction on this page.

Because it is written in Java, AMAPstudio can be installed indifferently under Windows, Linux and MacOSX.

In case of installation trouble, please see the FAQ which contains several answers to common problems.

Graphic card

Xplo uses a 3D editor based on the sketch library, itself backed up by the common OpenGL technology (JOGL). It might work better with a bigger graphic card. If your machine has two graphic cards, e.g. an integrated graphic chipset and an additional graphic card, it could be needed to tell your system to use Xplo with the additional graphic card to avoid problems in certain specific cases or to have a better (faster) 3D experience.

In case of problems with the 3D panel in Xplo, please check your system configuration and see if you can configure the additional graphic card to be the default.

E.g. under Windows: use dxdiag to see the installed graphic cards. In case of an AMD or NVidia card, there is a configuration tool provided.

  • AMD: Card configuration tool > Switchable graphics, there it should be possible to configure that Xplo must use the Graphic card (the executable running Xplo is java.exe)
  • NVidia: right click on the Nvidia icon at the bottom right of the screen > NVidia Control Panel > 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings, then:
    • Global settings to configure the use of the card for all programs
    • Program settings to choose which programs should use the graphic card (by adding its executable in the list, i.e. here the java.exe program used by all AMAPstudio software)

Other cards may be accepted too.
