The Xplo plant architecture editor

Back to the table of contents

The Xplo editor helps working interactively on a plant architecture, coming from a file or created step by step by the user.

Import

Importing a file creates an ArchiTree in memory and opens it in Xplo: browser, 3D View, etc. It is then possible to check it, to change it, to run extractions on it and to export it to another file format.

Note: loading these files with various formats may rely on optionss and hypotheses to interpret the read data and turn them into an ArchiTree and may sometimes ignore data details.

Available import formats (8.11.2019)

Name Author(s) Description
AMAP Big Tree (.txt) Pierre Ploton AMAP Big tree measurement
GWA (*.gwa) S. Griffon Geometry With Attribute
LIG AMAP (.lig, .dta, .smb) S. Griffon AMAP Elastic line format import
Lidar text file S. Griffon Lidar data
MTG (*.mtg) S. Griffon Multiscale tree graph import, see the MTG file and File syntax pages in the openalea online documentation
OPF (*.opf) S. Griffon Open Plant Format import
OPS (*.ops) S. Griffon Open Plant Scene import
SimpleTree (*.csv) F. Theveney & S. Griffon Parse SimpleTree cylinder data and create topology (*.csv)
XDART (*.lie, *.rac, *.tps) Jacques Le Bot et Loic Pagès, INRA PSH Avignon Data Analysis of Root Tracings import

Export

Once a plant was imported or created in the Xplo Editor, it is possible to export it to several formats to be able to reload it to other software.

Note: exporting an Xplo ArchiTree to these files with various formats may rely on options and hypotheses and may sometimes ignore data details.

Available export format (8.11.2019)

Name Author(s) Description
Abaqus (.inp) S. Griffon Export tree architecture to Abaqus format
LIG AMAP (.lig, .dta, .smb) S. Griffon Export geometry and materials to lig and dta files
MTG (*.mtg)) S. Griffon) Export topology and attributes to MTG files
OBJ Wavefront(*.obj) S. Griffon Export geometry and materials to obj and mtl files

Creating a plant with the Xplo Editor

It is possible to create a plant architecture from scratch in The Xplo Editor by running manual actions. For this, start a new project with the Xplo Editor and choose 'New plant'.

You can now create the types for the plant elements you wish to build and then build the plant architecture step by step from the Xplo Browser and check the result in real time in the 3D render panel.

See this detailed tutorial for more details.
